WDORL 10: 5 Spring DIYs

April 12, 2021

This week’s Spring DIY features include a how to make a cherry blossom cake, Spring floral earring inspiration, how to make a colorful stepping stone, free crochet pattern for a circle vest, and a free sewing pattern for a hexagon coaster.

Has Spring arrived in your neck of the woods? Here in Florida, Winter is short, and Spring comes early. Spring is my favorite time of year here with cool mornings and evenings, and just gorgeous afternoons with lower humidity. It almost makes you forget how awful the Summer and Fall can be. Perfect time of year for outdoor activities. I’ve been enjoying rollerblading and working on and off in the yard, and dreaming of a beach trip! Tell me, what is Spring like for you?

In case you missed it, this week I shared some Azalea inspiration.

I also shared 30 Simple Wedding Dresses Under $60!

And 10 Simple Plus Size Wedding Dresses Under $80!

And last week’s Weekly Dose featured 5 Earth Day DIYs.

On my EyeLoveKnots blog, you’ll find:

  • 30 Spring Gift Ideas for Yarn Lovers Under $40
  • C2C Window Pane Throw Pillow – Free Crochet Pattern
  • And more Spring finds at the Snickerdoodle Create Bake Make Link Party 380!

On to this week’s Spring Finds!

Cherry Blossom Cake (Written Recipe/Instructions AND a Video) from Wilton:

In 2019, I went to Washington DC to see the Cherry Blossoms. We were so lucky that they were in peak bloom while we were there. When I saw this cake, I couldn’t help but share! Now you can have beautiful Cherry Blossoms anytime of the year.

Which Colourway (Inspiration) from Earrings Everyday:

I’ve been saving these earrings for a long time to share. Such a neat combination of the brass leaves, wire wrapped beads along the sides of the top and the fun pop of color. These pink and green are my favorite from the bunch!

Painted Stepping Stone from Crafts by Courtney:

Over the last year, I’ve really been working on fixing up my yard. I love the idea of adding personal touches, like painted stepping stones! I am working on a little seating area that I was planning on adding stones to once I get to that spot, so I may just need to dig out my brushes, and do some painting!

I want to point out that Courtney used her Silhouette to create a stencil for this project, but you can use any stencil at your local craft store (or make your own) or freehand paint your design.

Whirlwind Circle Vest (Free Crochet Pattern from Be a Crafter):

Pattern is given for size large, but for other sizes, you must buy the inexpensive PDF – I bought mine quite some time ago. I love the look of this top. I think it would look so awesome over a dress, and be right on trend. Maz used a wool blend, but if you plan on using this in the heat, try a cotton blend like Berroco’s Modern Cotton DK or Lion Brand’s Coboo.

Make an EPP Hexagon Coaster (Free Sewing Pattern with Photos) from Swoodsen Says:

If you are like me, and wondering what the heck “EPP” is, it is English Paper Piecing. In this tutorial, Stephanie shows us how to make the hexagons against a paper pattern (which she provides). A simple whipstitch joins them together, and you have a fun hexagon coaster. These would make an excellent gift with some tea/coffee and a new mug, or small vase holding one flower. Mother’s Day will be here soon!

Oh I love that cherry blossom cake! I wish I was talented enough to make something like that! 🙂

Hope that you are having a good week! Starting to get some autumn weather here at last – nice and cool in the mornings and evenings.

I would love to add some painted stepping stones to our backyard. We have some stepping stones that go from our patio out to the garden, but they’ve started to sink into the ground and I need to lift them up and add some dirt under them. There is always stuff to do in the yard outside!! Thanks for sharing these Spring ideas!

You are so right! Yard work is never ending. After seeing this tutorial though it makes me want to go get some cement tiles for the yard and try painting them

Yay! Can’t wait to see them! I have been thinking about trying it too. My painting skills aren’t that good, but just means I need to practicem

Welcome!

Hey! I'm Alexandra, the blogger and creator behind On Rockwood Lane and EyeLoveKnots! My passion is being creative. My favorite thing to do is crochet, and you will almost always find me having a cup of coffee and working on a new crochet project, but when I'm not doing that, you might find me out at a local park rollerblading, baking some fresh cookies, picking veggies in the garden or re-decorating for a new season or holiday. My two cats are great supervisors for all my adventures (minus the being outside because they think it's too hot in Florida to be anywhere but inside), and make sure I take plenty of breaks.

I've been shopping for a noodle bowl with chopstick holder for my niece. I really like this design.

Black OUGES Top (aff link)

When I received this black Ouges brand top in my September Amazon Wardrobe box, I was pretty happy. I have a similar top that I received in an earlier box that is the same brand, and I love the fit of it. I think the raglan style gives me a sort of confidence. I am a 42″ bust wearing the size Medium. There are several other colors available too!

It's lip balm season, and these lip balm holders are excellent! They come on a swivel hook that can be attached anywhere for easy access, and to make sure you don't lost your lip balm at the bottom of your bag. I personally have one of these. The quality is great, and Candace is lovely to work with! PLUS they come in 11 colors!
