Rollerblading is so much fun, and has many great benefits too! Let me tell you a little bit about it, and my experience. I think you may find yourself tempted to give it a try!

Shelbee on the Edge and Nancy’s Fashion Style host a fun monthly challenge called Good Buy/Good-Bye, where participants share a photo with a short description explaining if the item was a Good Buy or one that you will be saying Good-Bye to, and this month’s theme is Workout Wear. It’s been a while since I shared here On Rockwood Lane, but this challenge inspired me to put this post together.
Last year, I aimed to be more active, so for my birthday, I bought myself a pair of rollerblades, and I thoroughly enjoyed using them!
I did end up falling off in the end of July, but from end of March to end of July, I had gotten in 27 4-mile sessions. I was really proud of myself for surpassing the 25 session milestone.
During this time, I was going to nearby parks to ride. Sadly, this year, I’ve only rode a handful of times – just not feeling as motivated to get in my car, and travel anywhere to ride.
It’s such a great work out though. I did a bit of research, and found that skating burns about 40% more calories than a brisk walk does. And a bonus that it isn’t hard on your joints.
Rollerblading offers a good cardio workout, and is great for strengthening the legs and glutes. Maintaining your posture, and upright position will also engage your core and back muscles. Overall, I think it’s really great.
I think it’s also quite therapeutic. I put in my earbuds in while I’m riding, and jam out – literally! If you are near me when I’m rollerblading, you will hear me singing all the words to whatever song I’m listening to. HAHA! Seriously though, the music and the rollerblading just put me in a good mood!
I wear wrist guards, since crocheting and designing is how I earn my main income (check out my EyeLoveKnots and Cre8tion Crochet yarn blogs), I try my best to protect my hands.
At the park, I wear a baseball cap, but near the road, I make sure to wear my helmet. Another thing you can’t see here is sunscreen – very important!
I love wearing 7/8 length leggings as it goes all the way down, and covers the part of my legs that are inside of the rollerblades. Much more comfortable then jeans too, though they also work.
The leggings you see in these photos are from Target, and I have shared a review of them, but my favorite leggings are from Old Navy. The ones I have are at least 3 years old, and say Dry Fit inside. Looking at their site, I wonder if the PowerChill is the revamped version? I will need to pick some up to try.
Second to these from Old Navy is going to be Avia brand active pants also from Wal-Mart, which you can see in my Feeling Lucky outfit.
My rollerblades are Zetrablade brand Inline Skates. If you’re looking to get a pair, I definitely recommend these! They’re around $100, comfortable and ride smooth, plus I LOVE the teal color.
Though it’s been a while for me, I look forward to getting back to my regular rollerblade rides, and I hope I’ve convinced you to give it a try!

I tried roller blading with my husband when we first got married. But I wasn’t very confident and soon gave up.

Aww! At least you gave it a shot.

I rollerbladed a bit in high school… but as my boys were growing up we’d often take them to the roller skating rink and I’d bring my old skates with me and skate along with them. I was always so sore the next day (in the very best way!)… I LOVE roller-skating but really only feel comfortable skating indoors as I am terrified of falling.
Alexandra says
I try not to think of it, hehe! I love that you shared that with your boys!

I can’t use rollerblades lol. I just can’t seem to balance properly. That said, I do have a pair of old fashioned roller boots which I adore, but we never go out on them. Sadly, we’re quite lacking in places to go skating. I miss the times (back in the 80s) when we used to go to roller discos when we were kids! Those were good times 🙂
Hugs

I can only imagine! I wish they would bring back some places like that – I’d love to go! My mom talks about discos a lot, and they sound like so much more fun then what we have these days.

I haven’t been rollerblading or rollerskating in FOREVER! I definitely need to dig my skates out of my closet and dust them off again. You are so right they offer an amazing workout. Cheers to finding things that motivate us to stay healthy – gah – it’s so hard sometimes! Hugs and thanks for the reminder to find a workout we enjoy, CoCo

It certainly is a good workout – I just love it! I hope it’s inspired you 🙂

I used to rollerblade all the time as a kid. It’s such great exercise. I think I need a pair to keep up with my kids now! Yours look great!
Alexandra says
I definitely recommend it – the rollerblading, and these particular ones. Wish we were a little closer – I’d love to go out with ya 🙂
