In this week’s edition of Thrift Store Thursday, I’m sharing this sweet vintage hawaiian hula girl doll.
I found this hula girl a couple months ago, and she sold at my booth in America’s Antique Mall in Melbourne, Florida moments after I put her down. If you’re local to Central Florida, ask for seller “elk”.
I looked high and low for hula girls to find more information on her, but I only found one that looked like this one – that face style with the cute chubby cheeks, “Hawaii” on the grass, and this type of grass skirt. There was not much on the listing, and it’s now sold and I can’t find it on eBay anymore, but it was listed for $55.
Since I wasn’t as confident about the piece not having much to go on, I sold her for a price of just $9, and I figured that by taking 40% off the new price of another one I had at the time. As you can see by the new ones below, I undercharged, but it went to a good home, and I still made a little money so I was happy with it.
As soon as I placed her down on my coastal themed entryway table in my booth, a customer ran up, and picked her up. She started telling me how much she loved anything that had to do with Hawaii, so I knew this doll was going to a home where it’d be appreciated, which really makes me happy.
