Welcome to the October Pinterest Challenge! The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate us to not just pin, but to make it happen!
This month’s challenge is Gift in a Basket.
With the holidays upon us, what better than a Gift in a Basket? Perfect for co-workers, neighbors, teachers, showers, last minute and so much more! I love that they are so easy to customize depending on the recipient, and if you have a gift closet, you might even have all the pieces already.
My inspiration for this basket was this Coffee Lover Basket from NestCustomBaskets. I came across it on Pinterest, and then clicked over to Etsy.
I loved the idea of a bag of coffee, special mug, candle and an adorable little succulent, but when I started thinking about these pieces, I thought about the Stuck On You Mug and Baja Cactus Blossom Candle I already had that would be great together, and BING! A Cactus Lovers gift basket!
You can find more ideas in my Gifts: Foodies board, and in my Gifts: Ladies board.
I grabbed my Stuck On You Mug from the cabinet, my Baja Cactus Blossom Candle from my desk and…
… some cosmetic bags I got from MoonwakeDesignsCo. So hard to pick one for this basket! You can get one with your name right here. Here is the “Pretty Fly for a Cacti”. The other two I custom ordered.
I was inspired by the Stuck On You Mug to create a Saguaro Cactus Coaster – free crochet pattern is on my sister blog, EyeLoveKnots.
And in place of the potted succulent, I was inspired to create a potted Saguaro Cactus – free crochet pattern also on EyeLoveKnots.
I grabbed this aqua colored Woven Basket, and crinkled paper filler that I had sitting in my gift box.
And then I just laid the coffee mug down on the left, opened the lid to the candle and placed it on the right, and laid the potted Saguaro Cactus right in the center over top of the coffee mug handle. I folded the cosmetic bag in half, and placed it at the top behind everything else, and I folded the coaster in half, and placed it in the empty space under the candle. Perfect!
Before I put this basket together, I did visit my local Dollar Tree to see if I could find anything else that was cactus themed, and I found a ring holder, and bath bomb. I brought them home, but didn’t end up using them because the basket was a little smaller than I thought it was – the perfect size for just the items I had on hand, and I am so in love!

Gifts in a basket are so cute! To give and to receive!!
Alexandra says
Definitely! I forgot how fun they were to put together until this one. Seems I’ve gotten a bit out of the habit.

That’s brilliant! What a lovely combo of gifts. I made a crochet cactus a few years ago and you know, I think it’s still at a the bottom of a bag somewhere! I must look it out and just finish it off π
