How to make a red velvet waffle perfect for Valentine’s Day! It starts with your favorite waffle mix, which makes it a quick and easy recipe.
For the last few years, I’ve wanted to do a Waffle of the Month series. I always think about it towards the end of the year, and plan on starting the first of the year, but I always either forget, or like this year, I lose inspiration for the project.
My first thoughts were a Winter themed waffle, and I struggled to find it in me to come up with the overall idea, but then I thought about it, and since I’ve been working on Valentine’s themed projects for my EyeLoveKnots blog, ding! Why didn’t I think about a Valentine’s themed waffle? Game changer. This waffle was my lunch the very next day.
The paper doilies are from Dollar Tree. They have red, white and pinks ones in three different sizes, and I have them all!
The hand towel is my Through the Window Hand Towel, and if you crochet, I have a free crochet pattern on my EyeLoveKnots blog.

Makes:
1 Waffle
Time Required:
15 Minutes
- Mix Ingredients (5-7 Minutes)
- Rest Mix (5 Minutes)
- Cook Waffle (3 Minutes)
Ingredients:
- 1/2 Cup of Waffle Mix – I like Aunt Jemima
- 2 Tbsp Unsweetened Cocoa Powder – I used Hershey’s
- 1/2 Tbsp Butter or Oil – I use Country Crock’s Plant Butter
- 6 Tbsp of Milk – I use lactose free 2%
- 1 Egg
- 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
- 2 Tbsp White Chocolate Chips
- Optional, 1/4 Tsp Red Gel Food Coloring
- Icing: 1 Tbsp Store Bought Cream Cheese Frosting + 1 Tsp Milk
You’ll Also Need:
- Mixing Bowl
- Spoon/Spatula for Mixing Ingredients
- Measuring Cup and Spoons
- Pam, or Butter and Flour for Cooking
- Waffle Maker
Ingredient Notes:
- WAFFLE MIX: I sometimes use Hungry Jack, but I think Aunt Jemima makes a fluffier waffle.
- EGG: If you make more than 1 waffle, use 1 egg per 2 waffles.
- FOOD COLORING: Only changes overall color so it’s not essential, and you can certainly use more for a deeper red color. Also, I like to use gel coloring as it’s more concentrated than liquid coloring so less is more. If you use liquid coloring instead, you may want to use a little less liquid in the overall waffle since it adds that fluid in.
- ICING: You can make your own icing with a few ingredients, including powder sugar which you might have in your cupboard, but I like the ease of store bought icing, plus it’s a good way to use up leftover frosting.
Recipe:
Step 1: Mix dry ingredients together. Put aside.
Step 2: Mix wet ingredients together.
Step 3: Combine wet ingredients with the dry ingredients until it’s no longer lumpy.
Step 4: Stir in the red coloring.
Step 5: Stir in the white chocolate chips.
Step 6: Let batter rest for about 5 minutes.
Step 7: Plug in waffle maker, spray with Pam, and when ready, cook waffle for about 3 minutes.

This is lovely, I never thought to add food colouring to my waffle mix to get a certain colour. I am off to the shop to get some colourings and I am definitely up for these waffles. Thank you for the idea :).
